Buenavista Golf put on its best face this week to welcome 126 top players and television coverage from 120 countries and English player Trish Johnson rose above all the pressure to win the 2010 Tenerife Ladies Open. It took a cool head from the Bristol born player but her  23 years on the circuit served her well and old she arrived in good form after coming runner up in the Portugal Open.
The scenic beauty of the course couldn’t be allowed to detract from its unforgiving nature, maybe it was all about peaking at the right moment, Trish set herself up well with a wonderful round of 66 on the third day to go into the final round at the top of the leaders board. There was a dual threat from the French but in the end Virginie Lagoutte-Clement had to settle for second and Anne-Lisa Caudal took third spot. There are more detailed daily reports and photos at Tenerife Magazine but here are the podium positions.
- 1.- Trish Johnson (England)Â Â Â Â 274 (67+71+66+70)
- 2.- Virginie Lagoutte (France)Â Â 275 (67+70+70+68)
- 3.- Anne Lise Caudal (France)Â Â 276 (68+71+70+67)
It’s all good fuel for the booming golf tourism market in the Canary Islands. just this week Rita Martin, Tourism minister for the Gobierno (government) announced an increase in golf tourism visitors for the first half of 2010 compared to the same period last year. There were 12,200 more heading for our courses, that’s up by 3.5% , not bad at all in the current economic climate. Tenerife Ladies Open will have helped to keep sunshine golf in everyones minds.
