Welcome.
Pedro M. San Ginés Gutiérrez
President of Cabildo de Lanzarote
Lanzarote is gearing up to celebrate one of the most important events of its sporting calendar; the International Marathon of Lanzarote which will take place on November 29th 2014. This edition of the event is celebrating its silver wedding anniversary, what shows -along with the 24 years of the Ironman- the rootedness that our island already has in multitudinous competitions. The International Marathon of Lanzarote is a great celebration of sport that, in the last edition was attended by 1,100 participants and this year aims to make that number 1,500. The organization, in which it participates with the Cabildo, has established that this is the limit due to safety reasons. The event will bring runners from around the world together, which I give the most cordial welcome to. What will become the busiest coast of the island – the circuit between Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen – will have the sea as a backdrop and the breeze as a companion on the route. While racers concur in effort, sweat, strength and glory, Lanzarote will hold the eyes of spectators from around the world who are interested in the sport, as well as from other cities in which we are a role model for and should be seen to beat when it comes to hosting such events. This is why I would like to invite the islands population to feel like International Marathon of Lanzarote is just as much theirs. Encourage them to support it because the success of this race is a triumph for Lanzarote and its citizens.
