The Thursday morning presentation of the 4th Spring Duathlon Teguise took place at Sands Beach Resort in Costa Teguise just two days ahead of the 4 pm start on Saturday 14 April. It was made in the presence of Echedey Eugenio, sports councillor for the Ayuntamiento of Teguise and Andres Medina, organiser of the race and President of the Costa Teguise triathlon club.
The challenging route was outlined to those present, starting with a 5 km run around a set circuit of Costa Teguise, followed by a 20 km bike ride taking the competitors out to the old roundabout at Tesequite and back to Sands Beach Resort for a rousing finish with another 2.5 kms on foot. At least 100 runners are expected to compete on the big day, entry forms are still being taken from reception at Sands Beach Resort. Most of the athletes are from Lanzarote but the event has also attracted a number of entries from foreign athletes who have been inspired by the challenge of the Duathlon.
Echedey Eugenio praised the Duathlon as “an event that allows many people to enjoy the landscapes of Teguise including Costa Teguise and many other zones.” The councilor thanked the organisers and Sands Beach Resort for making the event possible. Andres Medina said he was very pleased at the steady flow of entrants this week which marked an increase on last years event and it would make it a memorable day for everyone.
Although the race sets off at 4 pm Costa Teguise will be buzzingg with the build up from noon when the athletes collect their running numbers. The Feria del Corredor (runners fair) near the start will also ensure that race supporters can get into the happy sporting mood of the day.
