The beautiful and unspoilt beach of La Famara in Teguise was the setting for the Spanish National Kitesurf Championship competition held between the 9th and 14th July 2012, organised by La Santa Surf and sponsored by Sands Beach Resort.
With winds holding steady at 30 knots and waves reaching heights of 2 metres, the freestyle and wave riders were able to put on some spectacular displays and competition was strong. But the current Spanish World Champions, Abel Lago and Almudena Naranjo both managed to hold onto their titles. Joining Abel Lago on the men’s winners podium were Juan Pablo Padillo in second place and local rider, Guillermo Jimenez in third place. Standing beside Almudena Naranjo on the women’s podium were Alma Suarez in second place and Julia Castro in third.
Providing a chilled out seating area, shelter from the wind and welcome cold drinks, including cocktails, Sands Beach Resort’s chiringuito marquee proved a popular meeting point for riders and spectators.
Hosting the awards ceremony at their Mai Tai bar, Sands Beach Resort provided the perfect setting to end the competition with a night of music, awards and fun.
